Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman

BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Duo – 2016 & 2013
Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman have long established themselves as one of the UK folk scene’s most rewardingly enduring partnerships.

Twice recent winners of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Duo – 2016 & 2013 – the couple’s intimacy and strength of passion on stage have won them many fans and an enviable reputation as ‘Songwriters par excellence’- (fRoots), whose greatly varied original songs cover such subjects as wicked mermaids, Norwegian legends, and a lonely whale.

Building upward from their last two highly praised albums ‘Hidden People’ & ‘Tomorrow Will Follow Today’, fans of acoustic music can only wonder where this leading couple will choose to turn next.

With a story that includes over 20 years of music making with the likes of Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, Levellers, Kate Rusby and Show of Hands, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman have consolidated themselves as pillars of modern British folk.

Ruth Theodore

Ruth taught herself guitar as a busker, releasing her debut ‘Worm Food’ in 2007 followed by critically acclaimed records ‘White Holes Of Mole Hills’ (2010 )and ‘Dear Lamp Love Moth’ (2013). Mumbo Jumbo

Mumbo Jumbo

Shortlisted in the British Blues Awards 2016 and 2012

Mumbo-Jumbo takes three of the Midlands most experienced gigging musicians – Oliver Carpenter, Chris Lomas and Phil Bond – throws them together in a broadly acoustic format and lets them deliver what they are best at – live music performance.

They play around 85% of their own music, and the writing is so good that they were nominated in the British Blues Awards in the Best Original Song category for their track ‘Nice Work’ – maybe the new album ‘Sonic Gumbo’ will have another suitably recognised gem.

Their 2016/7 festival schedule included Great British R&B (Colne), Ealing Blues, Upton Blues, Bromsgrove Folk, Nantwich Jazz & Blues, Wallingford Blues & Beer, Upton Folk, Hay Philosophy & Music, Jinney Ring Blues, Jinney Ring Folk, with a number of others still havering into view show the breadth of their accessibility to a range of audiences. Both blues and folk festivals and clubs have discovered Mumbo-Jumbo too!

Tyler Massey

Tyler Massey

American-born songwriter Tyler Massey mixes various styles of American folk with the Classical tradition and a healthy dose of British psychedelia. This has resulted in a unique style of songwriting and a deft, sparse guitar technique which accompanies a slightly world-weary baritone voice.

Although he often collaborates with session legend Vo Fletcher, his most recent album, The Ocean Within, was mainly a solo effort. He currently resides near Worcester, which is sort of in the middle bit of England (see map), but will gladly drive elsewhere when people ask him to come and sing.

In college, he played in several American bands, opening for dozens of acts from all over the states, including Adrian Belew, Mojo Nixon, The Afghan Whigs, The Romantics and the legendary Hasil Adkins.

Fleeing the Bush Administration and a general sense of ennui, he immigrated to the UK in 2005. Unbelievable though it may seem, he actually prefers living in the UK to the US, though this is mainly due to the fact that he has a fatal allergy to Conservative Christian Republicans (he has a doctor’s note).

The Strays

The Strays New

The Strays are a raucous Neo-Rock n Roll trio.

With their eclectic musical influences, they write modern music that breathes new life into the rock n roll genre, using elements of pop, rock, country and blues, combined with rockabilly riffs and driving beats – all performed with just a guitar, stand-up drums and punchy vocals.
With this completely unique set up, they have managed to create a huge, modern/vintage, hybrid sound that just won’t quit!

Their original tunes are so catchy you’ll feel like you know them already and their covers are cleverly reimagined in the rock n roll style.

“A toptastic band……have booked them twice already this year for celebrations and I keep trying to think of new things that I can do so I can book them again……! Fabulous trio!” – Donna, Gloucester

“Thanks for the music guys!! Very good feedback so we look forward to seeing you again!!” – Ruby Jacks Pub, Evesham

”They’re yummy!” Anon – Rose n Crown, Stratford-upon-Avon

”The place came alive, an incredible trio!!” The Doctors – Gloucester

A music festival set in the Worcestershire countryside in the gardens of the Jinney Ring Craft Centre.
